For me, this is a victory of self worth, where writing and feeling what is written and shared in an uncomfortable setting is worthwhile.

The Venue Is Here

I have written for decades
Telling life stories
Wishing my frailties away
All in writing, creating forays
Into self exploration
Appeasing angst and self reflection

It was always a thought
A curiosity that sought
If the words I wrote
Caressed feelings of others
That read what my ramblings spoke

At this juncture in life
My acts of self care
By writing my personal strife
Has caused a desire to explore
What impact poetic awareness
I shared in internet wires

Resonates with an audience
Of peers in spoken word
This time not in an anonymous void
But in front of a crowd
Of live thinking, life stories
Where an active act dispels cowardice

A year ago I made the choice
Of finding if what I wrote
Made a difference to those of like voice
Feeling there was no quotes
Of Self worth that was a risk
For my quest of answered notes

What I found was a simple validation
That spoken word has no boundaries
That the mic was the only hesitation
That my victory, in symmetry
Was simply to make peace with my creations
To answer the last question of my journey

Acceptance in any venue
Is a valued victory
To cast aside scenarios
Where worth as a poetic warrior
Is dispelled for uncertain anxiety
In this writing sanctuary

Enjoyed the read. A live audience can be intimidating. I used to do Spoken Word nights until I heard a recording of myself and found that I didn't like the sound of my own voice.

I think your words might reflect a lot of member's thoughts about sharing work via the Internet, I personally felt you were being specific about PoetBay and your experience of sharing here, but I could be mistaken. Whatever, validation of One's work is almost like lifeblood to a poet because being a poet is actually a 'lonely' occupation, which is why I think commenting is so valuable for one another.
