AFTER

nobody talks about
"after"

when the sympathy ends

when the calls stop coming
when grief is not new

how do you carry that
unbearable load?

now - now the loss is real
yours, yours alone

when you most need
someone to help

bear it

Def Marie,

You have expressed the moment of being alone in your grief so achingly beautifully. Yes, you bear it. And it is unbearable. How do we manage?

There is a poem by e.e. cummings called “i carry your heart with me” that really helped me through the period of my intense grief.

Sincerely,
Melinda

You portray this honestly and accurately, that quiet period when everyone else, except you revert to “ normal lives.”
