Turn of The Page

A relationship is past tense
Sequestered in my subconscious
It has been two years
Since we permanently parted

Memories and pain are gradually fading
Scars of the nuclear fallout
That seared my psyche
Are still present every day

Although my mind gradually heals
An aura of failed will
Exists and will likely stay
As intense feelings of what was good
Still exists, the rest has become passe

Today the page has flipped
Where a caring partner has created
A sense of peace where past trauma
Is in the past but not forgotten
For both parties in this late life adventure

It exists with an idea of future
That is consummated by tenderness
With no expectation of what occurs
Tomorrow, or week or month or year

Age has taught us a simple truth
Our future could end tomorrow
Urgency dictates our actions,
Our expectations, while patiently waiting

For blessings that Writes its own story
For each meeting we experience
For each pleasant event
For each loving touch

Much like the Never Ending Story
It writes itself with truth and compassion
Until there is no story left to tell.
