Inspired by Jim's 'saint old man'

LOOKING FORWARD

Today I learned a new pain.
Never before felt in this life.
It was truly very unpleasant.
I couldn't make out if
It was muscular or maybe
A trapped nerve - or two!

Some pains are fleeting
Gone almost as soon as there.
Others are sharp like a knife.
This was consuming - yes,
That is the right adjective
Consuming.  But it failed.

It didn't manage to consume me
Only warn me perhaps that
'This is something new old chap.
You think you know it all
But you've a lot yet to learn!'
Ageing brings some hard lessons...

... but also things to look forward to!

A subject of pure realism. Not the kind of transcending imagery, but of fire and smoke and life being lived. The kind of imagery that is repeated on a factory floor, so under looked as not to be written. And the starkness of this fact is refreshing. You took the mundane and clay-modelled it into a swan. Thank you.

With age comes continual self-assessing. These new pains, inevitable, are always disconcerting. Blessed relief when it dissipates. If it dissipates!

You end on a positive note—optimism has its own healing effect.
