A walk down Edisto Beach

Maggie’s Paws

We walked a familiar beach
A slow motion Edisto stride
Noted for unspoiled beauty

Featured were shells a plenty
Waves glistening sunlight ripples
And mysterious large prints

That followed us upon our sandy trek
A clear azure blue sky and spring temps
Presented tide advancing

That spread the prints
As if each step was magnified in size
We wondered what creature made them

Big prints deep with weight
In the soft wet sand
Foot prints along side

The mystery soon to be erased
By the tides timely progress
As it alters daily the beach landscape

When along comes an energetic
Golden yellow mixed breed retriever
With her dark haired female companion

She was large and athletic with paws
That matched the beach imprints
A pink collar and friendly face

That asked for an ear scratch
A muzzle caress amid a smiling master’s
Permission to befriend Maggie

Satisfied, Maggie’s paws continued
With more joyful imprints
On a beautiful pre spring day

This is Edisto or Edislow where nothing
Happens quickly in a soothing Ocean
Flow, caressing winds gentle sky

That is the point, slow down
Enjoy what nature gives
The rest can be solved later
