The weather is one of the last relatively neutral conversation starters left for us to use.
we pray for rain,
enough to penetrate
the thirsty skin of earth,
move deep within,
watering the roots,
restoring balance,
refilling the reservoirs
needed to cycle it back
to us.
We have our fill of it
within days, start
praying for it to end,
to shed our rain gear,
walk about without the mud
weighing us down,
enjoy our lives
without hesitation or delay,
the sun a welcome sight
as clouds clear to blue.
Is there anywhere on earth
where balance is achieved,
where just the perfect amount
of rain and sunshine,
grace each day,
so that people never worry,
never comment on the weather?
Even if such a place exists,
the people there
would still remark,
use weather
as a conversation starter,
an icebreaker to common ground.
Perhaps we should be grateful
for the shared, unavoidable,
uncontrollable topic
of weather, for in it
we find connection.

Converstion Starter
In times of droughtwe pray for rain,
enough to penetrate
the thirsty skin of earth,
move deep within,
watering the roots,
restoring balance,
refilling the reservoirs
needed to cycle it back
to us.
We have our fill of it
within days, start
praying for it to end,

walk about without the mud
weighing us down,
enjoy our lives
without hesitation or delay,
the sun a welcome sight
as clouds clear to blue.
Is there anywhere on earth
where balance is achieved,
where just the perfect amount
of rain and sunshine,
grace each day,
so that people never worry,
never comment on the weather?
Even if such a place exists,
the people there

Perhaps we should be grateful
for the shared, unavoidable,
