Change Is On The Daily

From A covered porch
I see the shallow Yadkin
Shallower still sand bars showing
Drought conditions displayed

Davidson County Land
Abused by lng pipes
Feeding a Duke power plant
Built for data centers primed

Farming land consumed
By tract home communities
Zoned before protests
About lack of planning

Destruction of landmarks
Where fire consumed joyful visits
Valued by more than existence
Decades to the present

Plants evolved blooming smells
Bids migration flying swimming
Squirrels dancing hanging
Digging nesting cushions fibers flowing

Whistling bark in the dark
Sand white Pekingese pup
Lighting a soul of despair
Growing daily, growing up

Trip coming mountains bound
Hybrid rolling gas prices
Meaningless to a destination
Rest, relax mountain views

Change is on the Daily
Hostility breeding
Grace leaves it mark
A collage of life

Your poem is stark and elegant at the same time, haunting and true, a dystopian landscape.

Kee,

That fire hit me hard. Saw it tonight. Grief. So many memories made there with children and grandchildren.

So many concerns touched on in this, so many it’s difficult to keep up with it all. You have a magical way of tying it all together with a bit of personal tied in. Beautiful, strong piece of writing!

Sincerely,
Melinda
