Ouroboros

The old stray dog rummages through the trash, pushing its snout onto any garbage bag it sees. A few neighborhood children stare at it from a distance; some giggling, some alert. Further down, a policeman looks at them; his eyes half concerned and half apathetic. A group of rowdy young men throw him side glances; carefully cross the street, hands hurriedly shoved in their pockets. An old man curses at them under his breath while he roughly orders a cup of tea. The young waitress rolls her eyes and wonders if he’d figure out if she spat in it. The young cook in love with her, ponders how someone could be so beautiful. The older cook, in the back, puts some bones in a trash bag to feed the stray dogs after his shift ends.
