A villanelle. Whew…I am exhausted.
Dedicated to Kee: A poem to commemorate the one year anniversary of our first meeting this weekend.
a memory still fresh when first we met,
but in my love, your heart you can entrust.
We came with hearts still guarded, not with trust,
both longing to be loved and to belong,
I may not be the one who chose you first.
By chance you called, we met and shared a lunch,
and found in each the echo of ourselves,
but in my love, your heart you can entrust.
With cautious steps we learned to each adjust,
to trust the quiet voice that said stay close,
I may not be the one who chose you first.
A year now gone, the you and me now us,
two separate lives now walking as a pair,
but in my love, your heart you can entrust.
What lies ahead, the future is stardust,
but this is sure — our hands will hold it well,
I may not be the one who chose you first
but in my love, your heart you can entrust.
