Glorified Memories

Memories live in their own worlds
With wrapped sweets and kiss curls
Floating around as kings and queens
Free from the minds of human beings
For just because we give them birth
Does not mean we own their worth
They can float and fly and live forever
With crest of hope and blue jay feather
When gathered they must forget us all
Our minds dissolve, recollections stall
So think whenever your thoughts do fly
Existence is not remembrance to glorify

Memories as independent entities, what a fascinating concept.

I love the rhymes and imagery. I have this floating around in my thoughts now: "With crest of hope and blue jay feather"

It's always great to read your poems, Dave.

Memories are funny things; they are not loyal either. They drift, reshape, forget us, and live on their own terms. Perhaps we are better off not to glorify them unduly or confuse them with reality. Makes one think as well if memories as past reality remain real or morph with time and situation. Good stuff, D. 🙏🕊️
