ALL OUR HUMAN INTERACTIONS

Like it or not

Influences each other. And anything that has ever been written has had an influence on someone.
But we don't really control the wires or the words and who will recieve them or not. But poetry writing, in particular, exposes the soul. You become vulnerable in the intimacy of one's own expression. For many, including myself-- it is a creative inhibition we have to struggle with. It causes "writer's block". I have several poems I have yet to publish laying on that block.....
Chop chop or publish.....and what do you care what I do? The true value of writing does not solely depend on the reader. But that, is just an opinion. But I do ponder the world and what is written and why? As for myself....will I be read? More important, will I be understood? Do I write for you or do I write for me? It is both.
And "poetry" is visual music....it has beats and rhythms locked inside the heart of carefully selected words. But when you don't know what the words mean and one is speaking in a different tongue, the challenge of comprehension becomes that of the reader....and the readers come in many flavors... and much, famous or small, never gets read at all. I came back here after 17 years, more to reflect on what has survived and perhaps add more from the current life I'm experiencing- my recordings on paper represent a journalistic diary. I like to write in a poetical style. Words can be play and brain exercise. But I took a long break from it because I was too engaged in living my life and even now, often find it hard to find the time to create through written expression. But I do have notes and unfinished verses scattered everywhere. Maybe I need to just string them all up randomly and cross my fingers,
hope to die. Why is it that many don't realize or ever get to know their own "fame" until after they are dead?

Welcome to the age of publishing and the promoters.
But it's not for me and not my world to obsess in.

Thank you for sharing your
Wonderfully insightful poem.
We all like to write and to be heard,
I like yourself have unfinished work.
Manly because I can't find the words.
Some of these I've fluffed them out.
A few pieces that I should probably delete.
I like the rhythm of your imagination,
It gives me a visual description that speaks to me.
It invigorates a deadend mind that likes to write.
Thanks again dear friend. Regards Alan

Very good observations. Surely we write for various reasons--and often multiple, seemingly contradictory, reasons. There were the Confessional Poets, like Robert Lowell, Sylvia Plath and Anne Sexton, who spilled their guts at the drop of a hat and published a great deal of their work; and then there was Emily Dickenson, who apparently wrote reams of verse, most of which the public never saw until she met that gentleman who ''Because I could not stop for Death - He kindly stopped for me.''

And of course Robert Frost defined poetry as ''a momentary stay against confusion.'' (Though I have written and seen poetry that seems to multiply confusion). He also preferred structured poems because writing unstructured poetry was like playing tennis without a net. I think using rhyme, rhythm, measure, etc. just make writing more fun. But perhaps I am in the minority there.

Like you, I write for myself and for others. And like you I have many, many poems unfinished or forgotten that have never been presented to anyone. It is the same with my songs. I lived in my head for so many years that I did not even think to share them. I too believe that poetry is like music, it has a rhythm and a beat. That is why I have problems appreciating work that is not structured. What you have written here resonates with me and makes us all think of just why we are writing.
