A tribute to the men of the German u boat service killed in action during the second world war. It is a cold fact look at what it must have been like.

Silent Running by M.A.Meddings

The german u boat was seen as the biggest threat to British interests during the second world war. But the submariners themselves paid a dreadful price.

Of the 40000 men in the u boat service at the start of the war 28,000 were killed in action and 8000 taken into captivity.

Silent Running

by M.A.Meddings

Dive for our lives
kurt, for gods sake!
Take us down!
Go where we have never been
Cant you here their screws sound

They are onto us
Dive! man dive!
I want you to take us
beyond their depth charge range
Go where they cant believe

Sit us on the bottom
Hey Kurt, believe me
The pressure ?
This hull will not crush
We build them good In Germany

The men?
Dont you think I know
About these men?
Boys most of them
No older than babies

Do as I say
Bloody well dive
I know about Baumer!!!!!
He's scared
So the hell am I !!!!

Bring Baumer here !!!!
I will see him through this
let him cry!!
let him cry for the men
already dead!!!

For gods sake man
Do you want to die
Take us down
Then silent running

Very passionate and dramatic...

Oh to see war and death, my eyes would not look but remember. And I'm sure all would cry with already-gone men.

Beautiful, bookmarked,
Z

Silent running...fear of death...
"send us down to depths unheard!"
Silent running...Reined-in breath
One-hull-outfit outnumbered...

Mike, this is so emotional. They way you have written this has brought there inside that horrible place. My heart is pounding in fright and in anticipation of what is coming for these young men. War's reality is red with blood and black with evil. I am still reeling from this ride. kathy
