a poem about corruption

Something "small"

you want me to pay you something "small"
for services I am offering you
you want me to hire people
from your neighbourhood
and when I refuse
and choose to play by the rules
you run off...maligning my name

and when the report comes
saying that you are dishonest
you are busy crying foul
saying it is the work of your enemies
trying so hard to hide
the evidence that implicates you
shedding crocodile tears...claiming innocence

the rot that you started
runs from top to bottom
the children are aping the
ways of their parents
demanding something "small"
for a service that is your right
we are corrupt to the core

I cannot walk down the street
without the police demanding some money
I need to get into the club...can't pay the cover charge
so I give the doorman something "small" to let me in
I failed my university exams
so I paid someone off to forge me a degree
we are corrupt to the core
