The perfect home

we have been together
for quite a while
you stuck with me
through my trials
and the worst of times
we have fought so many times
that I forgot to count
I never hit you
hurt you or threatened you
I really care for you
do you remember back in December
when we used to hang out
whiskey and beer
going to the clubs every night
I remember I promised
to commit to you
we made a vow
to be good to each other
just try to understand
that if I change at times
it is only because
I never owned anything that's mine
we were all born hungry
in this world alone
but since we have each other
let us make this the perfect home

going through hard times
ghetto child of mine
I wonder if you have to suffer
for your forefathers crimes
to be honest it's a hard road
just keep your faith in God
as for me...
I'm trying to be a better man
watching over the coming problems
handling them like a seasoned veteran
show me the meaning of forever
and together we'll rise
why question my love
it's so easy to see
without my family
all I'm left with
is a shadow of me
after all the hard times
the misunderstandings
and the arguments
I believe it's time
to live the good life
inside our perfect home

Kathy Lockhart
this is purely written from your inner most heart of hearts. So well done. I love the narrative poem. It reveals so much and in return evokes so many deeply felt emotions by the reader. Well done. Thanks for sharing yourself. xx Kathy
