The first time that I saw wild primroses growing in a huge sweep was in Derbyshire in 1969. Here is the ditty that I wrote at the time..

PRIMSOSES Belper Derbyshire.

I wandered through the graveyard
high above the town.
The mist still clung, and I walked
to where the hill sloped down.
And there I saw, to my delight,
glowing in the green,
a million tiny primroses
the prettiest things I've seen.

"O stop," I thought, "O stop, vain world, in the midst of your toil and strife,
stop and admire the lovely things God gave you in this life.
Stop and admire, on this lonely hill,
surely a wondrous sight-
a million tiny primroses,
glowing in the light."

What a delightful poem to read, don't you just love it when you come across a sight such as this that it inspires you to write about it, nature is such an inspiration.

primroses are quite particular as to where they like to grow. Belper is where I was born and here where I live in cornwall primroses grow by the roadside and everywhere there are woods too. This was a great reminder of the true beauty of nature and my own beginnings. Thank you for sharing this distant memory. Smiling at you, Tai
