Acts 9:18

Have you ever watched a snake
Shed its skin? A sinuous sacrament
That begins with the scales of its eyes.

An out-of-body experience, its sloughing
Sensuous and profoundly spiritual,
Casting aside the husk of what it was

To be born again, new and sinless . . .
Writhing resurrection of the old body
Without the needless agony of dying.

. . . and google shall shed the scales from my eyes. Like Larry I had to look it up, and glad I did.

This poem 'isses its way to its de-nudement.

I'm sorry, I can't resist my own lame sense of humor.

A terrific combining of natural imagery with piercing insight, to bring the commonplace into focus. Though there is nothing common about seeing a snake shed its skin in this day and age, or to draw the allusions so naturally.

I'm not a Christian, so I had to look up Acts 9:18 to see what you are up to here. This is a very nice melding of faith and the natural world (to which you always seem to be paying such close attention), written with your customary grace.
