A Private Eulogy

Today I read of your passing, and tonight
A silky cloud passes slowly across the moon,
And in that almost-shy gesture I remember
Your sheer gown, framed by a moon-lit window;
The way you slowly turned and let it fall from
Your pale shoulders (the sun was never your lover);

The shadows that blushed on cleft and curves
As the gown settled softly at your bare feet
In a puddle of reflected light . . . and your hair
Was like rings of white gold around my fingers
As I pulled you close and kissed your dark eyes,
Mine filled with the light of the moon and you.

All those years ago we promised only to hold
Each other safe in our silence, a vow you kept
And I can break now when it no longer matters
Who may read these few words you never said,
Words I can say here and now only in passing:
I loved you then, and tonight love you still.

It is amazing how time can erode some aspects of importance and augment others, isn't it. Last week I purchased Mark Twain's autobiography, which he had stipulated mustn't be published for a hundred years upon his death.
This one hits close to home. Thank you for stimulating fond memories with such finesse.

Lawrence Beck The PoetBay support member heart!
This poem is quiet and private. I'll say no more than that I enjoyed it.

The private eulogy can sometimes be the one that matters most whose accolade is the pure connection between one and the spirit of their dearly departed, in view of that, the 'broadcasted' eulogy may be compromised by several varying factors. This particular eulogy is birthed from a non-complacent heart.

This is such a peaceful reality. I do hope your heart settles soon, and that you can smile about the love you will always hold.

Excellent.

This is just beautiful, the emotion, the ethereal feel and serenity just washes gently over the reader, thank you.

Absolutely remarkable. Your private emotions of love shouting out to those who relate or sympathise. A poem is full of expression - yet yours is full of wonderment and serenity also. We are improved as a person when can share our troubles or share our needs. We can never blame love for the hurt we feel - as love gives us so much more to begin with. Continue to love and remember love, my friend. And continue to write, also.

Your friend,
John.
