At my wife's mother's death we transplanted a full grown older gardenia to our home in 2012. We were worried that it would not survive. It flourished and in September of 2015 with warm wet weather it bloomed again. It created a sentimental moment.

Phoenix Gardenia

An out of season
Fragrant white Gardenia
Presents itself treating
A surprised eye streaming
Tears on a trembling cheek
From its bloom scent peak

Its transplanted home
A fertile rebirth shown
By brilliant green leaves
Spawned with new growth appeals
To a prayerful daughter who chanced
Her spirit would support its stance

Like the Phoenix it sprouted anew
Reminiscent of one who serenely
Lived for its fragrant white flowers
Of the gardenia's calming power

This is so beautiful. You reminded me of my mother who would often sing 'if you wear a little white gardenia". Thank you :)
