Meant to be wed(pantoum)

I awake with a start
with a thump thump thumping heart
to the familiar tick of the clock in my room
but the darkness it feels like a tomb.

With a thump! thump! THUMPING! heart
Tears cascade down my face
my head's in a dark place
and my heart is a broken space,
but the darkness? It feels like a tomb.

Tears cascade down my face
memories come unbidden to my head
I'm, barely, holding on by a thread
and my heart? Is a broken space.

Memories come unbidden to my head
of a time when love was pure and true
all this pain is because of desertion by you,
when we were meant to be wed.

Of a time, when love was pure, and true
the future was extremely happy, that I knew
for I were to become one with you,
when we were meant to be wed.

i've learned a lot by reading your pantoums. this one is sad and touching, and the form gives it that much more impact.
