When The Night

We were there when the night

Kissed the day good-bye

A star near and dear did disappear

And distant dreams shone bright

Dwindling darkness before morning clear

Skies for sailors fly like gulls before the mast

Landlocked memories time to drown

Now there is no up to climb down

Inside the out  of light

We were there when the night

D G Moody
'Skies for sailors fly like gulls before the mast' Some fine evocative lines here, a good poem for me.
