Mannish Boy

While walking through this town’s twice twisted streets,
Brow dripped with sweat, my girl asked me what car
We’d buy when rich. I joked: Jeep and Jaguar.
So two? She tossed a laugh, phlegm thick; replete.

My sister paints. I once said our arts meet.
What if we both become popular stars
That burn when close! Must be gazed from afar?
She pursed her lips until they turned petite.

Both times, eyes down, I quipped: What price do dreams
Ever ask us? They simply want belief.
Is that a price too high for us these days?

Both times, wearing wry smiles the two did seem
To ponder on my words. Their answer? Brief:
Well, you’re a man. You see road. Not a maze.

An interesting piece. It spans time but gives the same answer. Is life a maze or a road? I am terrible at orienting myself so I would say maze. I saw your bibliography of books read and kind of understand why your poetry structure is complicated yet very good. Always great to read.
