It was originally a simple haiku converted into a tanka. I liked the former haiku, but perhaps it was too boring. Probably still is. But it is intended to be that way. Simple.

Valleys of Summer. [version ll] [for Ingvar]

Valley Of Summer

Fertile valleys thrive

in viridian splendor

gilded with sunshine.

Always followed by resting

In the clouds' Gossamer mists.

Here is a word-for-equivalent translation of the poem into Swedish.

Valley Of Summer = Sommardal
Fertile valleys thrive = Fruktbara dalar frodas
in viridian splendor = i grönskande prakt
gilded with sunshine = förgyllda av solsken
Always followed by resting = Alltid följt av vila
In the clouds = I molnen
Gossamer mists = Skira dimmor

A developed Haiku into a Tanka
by Clara Mae

It is simply a snapshot-like vision. The vision represents the essence of life.
For my Swedish friends, especially Ingvar:

Det engelska ordet gossamer översätts till skir (som adjektiv med betydelsen tunn eller delikat) eller spindelväv (som substantiv med betydelsen nät av spindeltråd) på svenska. De nordkarctalinska Appalacherna ser ofta ut så. När kvällen faller och molnen börjar sänka sig över dem ser det ut som om de är täckta av spindelväv gjord av moln.

Also, I want to share in other languages...well, how can one do that using rules of haiku [5/7/5] and tanka[5/7/5/7/7] syllables? I never thought about that before. When using translators the poem gets distorted and often loses intended meaning, especially symbolism and metaphor! Quite a challenge.

I know it is not "traditional". A traditional tanka's last 2 lines should reflect a personal note at the turn. Maybe that one will be version 3 soon to come.
