There’s a special shame for people who get rejected from poetry magazines with a 60% acceptance rate (It’s me). This poem too is nothing special, I’ve just been wanting to dance as of late.
My life an unseen show, a great woe
Looking for another fix
When it suddenly clicks.
A girl on the dancing floor
Unbothered, with a smile
Dancing with style
My eyes spreading like a spore.
And our eyes lock
Her piercing blue eyes
She grabs my hands like a prize
As I get pulled into the dancing flock.
My feet shuffle ungainly
And I tell her I can’t dance
She just looks at me plainly
As she’s got me in a trance.
I don’t try to leave
I don’t try to jive
Finally I feel alive
Together we weave.
I steal a kiss before the night ends
As I consider making amends
The song runs out, the crowd departs
She leaves a spark within my heart.
I never even learned her name
Yet I walk home not quite the same.

Disco Dance
I walk into the club, covered in shadowMy life an unseen show, a great woe
Looking for another fix
When it suddenly clicks.
A girl on the dancing floor
Unbothered, with a smile
Dancing with style
My eyes spreading like a spore.
And our eyes lock
Her piercing blue eyes
She grabs my hands like a prize
As I get pulled into the dancing flock.
My feet shuffle ungainly
And I tell her I can’t dance
She just looks at me plainly
As she’s got me in a trance.
I don’t try to leave
I don’t try to jive
Finally I feel alive
Together we weave.
I steal a kiss before the night ends
As I consider making amends
The song runs out, the crowd departs
She leaves a spark within my heart.
I never even learned her name
Yet I walk home not quite the same.
