These are some poems that I have written inspired by my trip to England in 1991. Some are about places that I have been to, others are about real people or things that I have observed.

Poems From Some Poetic Pieces: A Holiday Collection

A ROAD

A road from the Marble Arch in London
winds its way into Wales.
From complete chaos to the peace of green fields,
cows without a care in the world,
and the dry stone wall that hems in the patchwork quilt
of green and gold.

THE SIGHTS OF LONDON

ST. KATHERINE'S BY THE TOWER

This dolphin adored her...
It jumped up as if to touch her.
The London Bridge looked on in all its splendour:
it's proud blue silhouette set against a clear blue sky.

THE VICTORIAN PUB

Beautiful ladies with fine figures, and rounded breasts--
greeted customers at the brass plated tables.
Designs on the windows and mirrors called
to tourists to take their picture.
Drinking a lager and lime,
I looked around at the crowd--
as I watched white smoke drifting from a cigarette.
Ada laughed; and I gazed at the wonder of it all.

BLACKPOOL

It's everyone's paradise.
The Welsh are also welcome to its charms.

NORTH PIER

A helicopter hovered over it.
A merry-go-round twirled its passengers.
The sea was a deep dark blue.
It lapped along the shore, as if to greet its guests.
People were picnicking, sunbathing, or walking along the beach.

WATERLOO BRIDGE

Somewhere in Wales red roses adorn it...
Words in white proclaim it...
A commemoration of the bloodshed needed for Napoleon's defeat.

A BRIDGE
BY THE RIVER TRENT

A grey swan wearing a gold crown told us to "Tenez Le Droit."
Did she mean that we were to respect what was built so long ago?
Or did she mean that in times past,
that the bridge had to be defended from destruction?

A BALLROOM IN BLACKPOOL

Let me enchant thine ear...
What would you like to hear?
Some Bach, or Verdi?
As I imagined long flowing gowns, and laughter that abounds,
Mummio and I looked around at gold-painted walls;
and a stage curtain that seemed to be made of a rich red velvet.

CHARLOTTE

She turned down many proposals of marriage...
to marry a minister from Ireland.
But, she had to pay a price for her happiness--
Death was her dowry.
Charlotte Bronte died because she was carrying life.

ANOTHER TALE FROM WALES

Penn Lee:
where a killer had to flee--
from the murder of a young girl.
But, the lush green landscape didn't say a word;
it was like the crime had never occurred.

MUMMIO--
THE GLOBETROTTER

She talked about kangaroos,
and wombats who do their doo
on stones.
She talked about China,
and single women who grumbled kinda.
She's been on the Peak,
what a feat!
And she's been to West Germany,
what a journey.
She's seen the Nile, done the miracle mile, on a glider.
And after all that,
her one dream is to go on a Concorde.
After all these trips,
you know one day she'll be on board.

GOING TO ITALY

She saw his grave and grieved--
a journey within a journey...
to mourn the man she lost--
her husband who died when she was 21.

ADA

She has a love for life.
It's in her laugh,
it's in her smile,
that makes you feel good all the while.
It's in her dark brown eyes that twinkle,
as I soak up the sights.

THANKS ADA

For being my guide.
For being all the while by my side.
For leading the way,
showing me everyday,
the sights.
Ada, it was a great delight.

If you took the time to read my poems, thank
you. I would love to get feedback from you. Take care, and have a
great day. I find that words can soothe the soul, spark the intellect,
and embrace the heart with a warm and strong energy.
