Hay for Van Gogh

Scattered wheels of hay speak in unison
in a stentorian monotonal chorus
consuming the vast pastoral landscape
in their girth of symbolism and
in stark surreal stature checkering
manicured fields in disquieting chaos
as a debacle of titanic marshmallows
spilled accidentally upon
a Leviathan's carpet. The hay speaks
of abundance for the having
in the best of all possible worlds. The hay lays
in obnoxious grandeur for the easel
of Van Gogh.

Hay wheels are precisely round appearing
suddenly in early summer as if dropped off
by an alien spacecraft at night
passing for farm machinery. They litter
the silent manicured fields as
improbable monuments or collectively as
a memorial a la Holocaust communicating
gravity while casting dwarfish shadows
in the stagnant pale golden light
of a North Dakota sunset for the easel
of Van Gogh.

The occasional shameless cow buries
her delighted face into the heart
of a Goghian hay wheel and masticates
pungent sweetness, flailing her tail,
wiggling her ears, humoring the world.
She'd happily spend the rest of her life
trying to eat the entire edifice but
life is not that short.

Hay wheels speak clearly of abundance
in the early summer and later of decay
as they disintegrate into frowsy mounds
throughout the vaporous mornings joining
the vociferous piping chorus of the birds.
The hay speaks as it lays for the canvas
of Van Gogh but I
can't hear the words.

I couldn't possibly begin to tell you how amazing this piece is. I would not do you justice to for a second think I have the ability to critique such a work of art. Just please know that it was a superb poem, and that it truly is inspiring.

Vey enjoyable. Bubbling with insightful imagery. How many horses in Constable's 'Hay Wain'? Can't figure.
