Sorry folks, but, I just have to post this...Personally, it doesn't matter to me at all, but in the larger interest of the Poetbay, specially of those, who are blissfully unaware of the effect their innocent act of multiple postings can produce on other

Poetic Purgatory

Well, there are many ways of expressing yourself,
Some like to use few but heavily loaded with meaning, words,
Some like to yak away at top speed,
whether any one listens to them or not.
Some like to use such difficult words, that
Without a dictionary they cannot be understood at all.
And some, and this the kind we are talking of,
Are suffering from indigestion of sorts,
Probably they have seasickness?
Because the moment they land on the bay
They vomit all their poems out, here on the bay...
Because it is free for all!
As if it is a purgatory of sorts?
But they should remember,
Every body runs away from them,
Because they reek of self importance, most of all...
So, dear friends, post, but at your own risk
'Cause, there is very much a chance that you won't be read at all...

Until and unless of course that is your aim! ...lol!
But, then why post at all?

I am sorry Tony Lengba, you got it all wrong, if you read my answer here on this page to Tai Chi, you would know, it is not about content, it is absolutely a poet's prerogative to write about what he wants to write, this poem is just about multiple postings... There are people who post twenty poems at a time and just hog the whole front page, leaving no space for others; this is addressed to them... You are new to this website, or you would know that I am the last one to criticize the content of the poetry, I respect every bodies ideas and feelings and am always encouraging and appreciative of every ones work, even if there is a little spark of talent visible in the poetry.
You have got me all wrong! I am sorry, if I gave that impression to you or people around here, or hurt your feelings! My address was only to those who indulge in multiple postings...
I hope this helps?
(((hugs)))

I am not sure I understand this at all:
"There are many ways", which implies freedom, yet three restrictive opinions then seem to follow:
1) some poets write too intensely, loading words...but poetry is concentration;
2)some write conversationally, like to yak...but fast speech, as in rap/dub poetry can be highly effective;
3) some use difficult words...but quality expression rests on a deep vocabulary.
A legitimate, practical point--too much too soon can be off-putting and somewhat indulgent--and wise advice from a sensitive writer--comes disguised as poetry criticism, which this poem certainly isn't.
To criticise writers for making "a Purgatory" is to imply something negative about content i.e. they write about pain and sin...but poetry can be confessional, often is on Poetbay, often by longstanding members, from what I read. There is a danger in calling writing "vomit": it starts to reek of censorship and the high moral ground. And censorship is dangerous, even to poets who write like paradisal roses.

I guess you make us all feel guilty, since we all sometime have written and expressed more than we should have... Anyway, as the old poem goes,

"If you have anything to say,
just let it out,
even if it's only air,
because, after all, that's better
than dying from keeping it in."

Hi there Zoya I did post a forum item about this matter in may of this year and most commentors were in favour of a voluntary limit
but i think it is natural over enthusiasm
in a bid to profile themselves and most moderate in a few weeks
but i agree ti is frustrating rgds mike

No, Tai, not at all about the content, it is a poet's prerogative to decide about the content of his poems... Here as you have understood corectly, I am talking about the number of posting, multiple-postings, when people just vomit out all there poems on the bay... all the poems in one day, one after another... I know every one just gets put off, and ends upignoring all the poem, and some good poetry goes unread...
(((Hugs)))
Thanks for the nice comments though!

Ahhh Got it now....Carpet bombers is what they were called on anther site. It is annoying, but if no one tells folk from the outset, I have found that some writers use these sites as a kind of archive and don't realise the affect on the board of continuously changing poetry. I tried to get the management to post a simple notice when folk sign up on the other site because I got sick of warning new comers. Sorry if I sound curt in the last message, I thought you were reacting to emotionally traumatic work rather than bulk posters.

Smiling at you,

Tai

I don't understand what this is all about, but it is very off putting anyway. Not a poem Zoya, but a rant at some posters here. I thought this place was free of judgement? Tai

You are exactly right! I turn away from those who post so many. I am simply overwhelmed by all their postings so I choose to ignore them. It lessens my anxiety. lol
