Lonely Mary

Oh how lonely your quarters look!
How the morning air howls a song of confused mourning
As we tread upon your boards, alone under the dawn.
Would that I could see but one of your passengers
Who doubtless looked at the cooling coffee before us
Rubbing his hands in weary glee
Before the unthinkable occurred...
Pray tell, albatross winking atop the sail
Had you anything to do with this?
Have you, beneath lustrous white wings
A dark secret, an unspoken tale
Of souls taken before they could cry
Of monsters grotesque, and deeds so macabre
That the sun hides them now from our innocent eyes?
Whatever answer you give is swept under the clouds
By a fresh wind, as you take flight and leave us here
Steeped in mystery, spiced with terror
As we leave this palace of unknown fear.
