I think this is my DARKEST poem to date.
I chose the verse and chorus as I thought
they were an appropriate opening, the rest of
the words are mine.

Methodical Suicide


[Verse & chorus from T.V. The theme song
from M.A.S.H, called Suicide Is Painless]
"The sword of time will pierce our skin
it doesn't hurt when it begins,
but as it works it's way on in
the pain grows stronger, watch it bring.....
Suicide is painless,
it brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please....."

Free-reign of the BLACK DOG ignored for years
fenced behind a facade, howling in the dark,
now knife slit wrists weeping red tears
the release of hiding fears in a bloody spurting arc.

Deliberate breath-holding underwater
wanting to be covered in a warm, watery grave,
life has led her to this self-slaughter
her soul from corruption, she just could not save.

Bringing peak-hour traffic to a standstill
a twisted, bloody mess on the road,
off her head on an illicit pill
worthless thoughts of self hate were sewed.

A tube leading from the exhaust pipe
all windows up and doors locked on the car,
couldn't keep up with the pressure and hype
achieved fame too early, burnt out is her star.

Dark thoughts flittering through my head
storm clouds weighing down my sky,
But my heart refuses to be dead
I know it's the wrong time to say goodbye.

Hi Liz!
This is a wery strong and sad poem..not like the others I have read from you. You write this in a good way, even though its a sad poem. I really liked the ending verse..its never the right time to say goodbye..never...

I think a lot of people contemplate suicide at some point, most reject it thankfully - Its the grief of those left behind, the unanswered questions. I do believe that life is a gift and that bad things happen and good things - I remember the black times all too clearly and it makes me more determined to carry on - it is always hard to write about suicide and I admire anyone who does so - because the feelings behind it are so enormous, so complicated and the reasons - so so many. Well done
