Apple Tree
Outside my window there is a beautiful apple treeher stem is twisted and rippled
her leaves whisper wisdom to the wind
But as the snowflakes settle upon her branches
she seems utterly lifeless
suspended as the weather around her freezes and weeps
Serving only as a place to sit as I sing to find peace
I love watching her in the spring
budding new leaves and little birds singing her awake
I can almost see her shake off the sleep of winter
and sprout petals covering her glorious crown
slowly float across the ground beneath her shadow
And the deep, vivacious green she reveals in the summer
like a promise of a secret power within her
as her fruit grows from sour to sweet and wateringly crunchy
feeding all life around her
Then she blushes humbly
and says her farewell with the most stunning display
of her heart and love
and covers the ground and wind with it
Reminding us that though she sleeps as though dead
her fruit and leaves rot
and give new life and nutrients
to the roots of the trees standing near her
