Happy Dance

If last night was a taste of what's to come,

We can be happy, good things are coming.

It was everything we had hoped. No? Yes?

Gentle, close, loving, lots of quiet snuggling.

If there are fireworks to come, so be it.

If not, so be it, I'm happy. And you, look!

You're doing your happy dance! We're lucky.

(I knew my luck would change, it always has).

It's funny, in a sedate sort of way, all I ever wanted

Was to be held. It turns out you wanted

The same thing. Last night was your turn,

You slept like a baby. My arm was asleep,

But that's about all. I listened to your breathing,

Stroked your hair, bathed, not literally,

In the warmth of your breath. Tonight, you hold me.

There are so many more things to be said.

We'll say them. For now, I want to say thank you.

You are my shining stars, North and David.

Very beautiful. You know someone is special when your arm goes to sleep but you are happy not stir them. A treat to read :)

Tender is the night. So often poetry is about our bad times--it's always nice to see one about happiness and serenity and gratitude. And, as always, finely composed and fluid.

This is very sweet. (More importantly,) it's well written.

I talk to stars and constellations on clear nights but the moon is my constant companion. This was so beautifully expressed.

Beautiful, with sweet optimism. Ah, that first night.
