Even While Growing Up

Birthdays are a time to realize
The future is coming fast
Birthdays also make perfectly clear
Our shadows will never last
I've seen your beauty slowly grow up
Through each enduring year
I knew at one point in your life
This day would bring to me fear
Fear because I knew one thing
You could finally fly on your own
You could finally leave the nest
And leave me all alone
I also knew that wouldn’t be true
Because the memories I’ve kept with me
Will always reside within my heart
Because you are the essence of me
You’ve been the rare winter flower
Blooming for all this time
Spring and come and your radiance
Now has its time to shine
I wish you a life time of happiness
Whatever it is you do
I pray for your absolute safety
If trouble should ensue
I wish that each night that comes
Stars will consume the sky
I pray this rite you’ve come to own
Does not mean goodbye
Muriko, my dear niece
These words I speak are true
I wish you luck in your endeavor
Of whatever you pursue
