25th installment of the series (Yvonne)

Life in the Plains

Being one with the land was natural
It felt like the back of my hand
For I was born and raised on a farm
So I owned my very own land
My family loved me, all of them
We all worked hard each day
Strength was a sign of good fortune
I’d always hear them say
I had all the time I ever wanted
Learning the tools of the trade
I helped my family whenever I could
I felt my life had been made
I read many books on any day
When I was tending to the yard
The farm had many unknown tendencies
So everyone had to watch their guard
I had many horses to ride on the plains
I thought that time would never end
My family was more than just my rock
They were my life, teacher, and friend
Being happy always suited me so
Whether it rained or was nice sunny day
My father told me my smile had power
Power to chase all the clouds away
Living on the farm was a perfect place
To gather the thoughts in my head
I’d tell my family dreams of tomorrow
Before at last I went to bed
I never was able to take for granted
The bond that the family shared
I knew deep down it was our life force
It showed my heart that they cared
Today I live in a different place
Where land and farms are not seen
I miss the sky with stars shining bright
The lakes and the air smelling clean
I’ll never forget all the memories
That my family left in that place
I had a love that no person could steal
That no blackboard could erase
